Manchester United are expected to make an official bid for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus within the next couple of days as they look to bolster their under performing squad, report the Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old, who was named in Germany’s World Cup squad, has produced a string of impressive performances for Jurgen Klopp’s side this and earned an array of admiring glances from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

However, he has refused to be drawn on hi future in recent weeks despite mounting interest in his future, with the possibility that he will stay with Dortmund a realistic option.

But with the Old Trafford outfit set to launch a bid for his services, his resolve to stay in the Bundesliga is likely to be tested.

Despite United’s disastrous season and failure to secure Champions League football they are one of the world’s biggest clubs and being hand picked to lead their return to the pinnacle of the game is a flattering prospect for any player.

Reus is an outstanding talent, but the saga could run well into the summer with Dortmund likely to be keen to wait until after the tournament in Brazil to negotiate a deal for their talisman as his price is set to rise if he impresses for the national side.

Meanwhile, United’s pursuit of Reus makes an approach for long term target Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos unlikely as they are willing to wait until his contract expires next summer.
