Rumour: Schalke chief warns Arsenal: Signing Julian Draxler will take something “extraordinary”

Julian Draxler - Schalke to Arsenal

Arsenal have been hit by the news that one of their top transfer targets in Julian Draxler is set to stay at his current club Schalke, after chairman Clemens Tonnies denied speculation the youngster will leave in the summer.

The Gunners are facing Hull on the weekend and the news will come as a surprise to many fans of the club.

Arsenal were said to be keen on making a move for the youngster in the summer and were set to hijack Bayern Munich’s move. Draxler was heavily linked with a move to both Arsenal and Bayern during the January transfer window and Schalke admitted recently that the offer from Arsenal was not enough to tempt their hand.

However, now Schalke had said that the 20-year-old will stay at the club and according to Sky Sports News, the German midfield talent will not be moving to any club in the summer transfer window.

“Julian (Draxler) will stay at our club, if there is not something extraordinary going to happen (this summer),” he (Clemens Tonnies) told Sport-BILD.

“After that next season we will have to see. But I am very much convinced he will play even longer for Schalke than just next season.”

Draxler has been highly-sought after by clubs in the last year, with both Arsenal and Bavarian giants, Bayern Munich, expressing an interest in the German international.

The news will come as a blow to Wenger’s hopes of adding to his squad in the summer.
