Sensational Nacer Chadli volley goes in vain as Tottenham go down 1-2 to Stoke City

Nacer Chadli celebrates after his goal against Stoke City

Tottenham Hotspur slipped to the bottom half of the table after their third defeat in the last four matches, and Mauricio Pochettino’s men are veritably looking down the barrel after succumbing to Sunday’s defeat at White Hart Lane.

A complete lack of organization in the Spurs defence was repeatedly laid bare in the first half, and only 6 minutes into the match Barcelona reject Bojan Krcic finished off an unchallenged solo run with an accurate shot on goal from 20 yards.

Stoke doubled their lead in the 32nd minute courtesy an easy tap-in from a cross by the unmarked Jonathan Walters.

Nacer Chadli and substitute Erik Lamela were the only players from the London team who threatened the opposition, but the home side’s efforts at getting something from the game were conclusively put paid to after a red card was issued to defender Kyle Naughton in the closing stages of the match.

Here is the Chadli goal from the 77th minute of the match. Danny Rose made a good run down the left and delivered a cross to the back post, from where the Belgian volleyed into the top corner from an exceedingly tight angle. Sadly, this dazzling moment could not fire up his team-mates enough to inspire them to complete their comeback.
