Sergio Ramos not happy with Real Madrid contract delay: Ramon Calderon

Sergio Ramos is unhappy with Real Madrid’s failure to extend his contract

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has said that Sergio Ramos is unsettled at Real Madrid, as talks about his contract renewal drag on. He believes Ramos is not being offered improved terms in his contract for publicly backing former Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti and club captain Iker Casillas.

"It is clear that he is unhappy because the president has refused to extend his contract, with the salary," Calderon was quoted as saying.

"I find it like a punishment because he supported publicly, very clearly, Carlo Ancelotti, he said it was a mistake to sack him, and also he is backing Iker Casillas in the unfair situation he is living."

The Madrid vice-captain has been linked with Manchester United in recent times, who reportedly want him as part of the deal that takes their custodian David de Gea to Real Madrid. Calderon regards Sergio Ramos as one of the best defenders in the world and feels the Red Devils will be fortunate to have him within their ranks.

"Let us see what happens in the next few weeks. It is going to be very exciting to know what is happening. If Sergio goes to Man United, they will be very lucky," added Calderon.

Despite the unhappiness of the player, Calderon, however, believes that the situation will soon be sorted out as Madrid won't be willing to let their icon leave. He said, "We've known that Manchester United is willing to offer 30 million plus De Gea, but I find difficult that Sergio leaves Real Madrid."

The Sevilla youth product has 2 years left on his contract and has been with the club for a decade now.
