Berbatov: Should he stay or should he go

berbanews

The Berba transfer saga has taken another twist recently, with reports that West Ham are interested in signing the 31 year old Bulgarian who only has 1 year left on his old Trafford contract. Amid ongoing speculation surrounding Berba’s future, the 7 time Bulgarian player of the year took his thoughts to facebook.

Berbatov admitted his love for the club but can no longer see a reason to stay in M16 if he isn’t contributing to the United cause week in week out – a view shared by many around the club. Unfortunately for Dimitar, he has found himself 4th in the pecking order in recent times, (behind Rooney, Welbeck & Chicharito), but surely a man of his vision and technical ability has more to give?!

Since joining United in 2008 from Spurs for a record £30m fee, the gifted Bulgarian has not always had the full backing of the fans due to his languid, yet skilled approach to the game. Furthermore, in his first two seasons he only managed to net 28 goals for the reds which left many wishing ‘that t**t from argentina’ hadn’t buggered off to the noisy neighbours down the road.

However, Berbatov changed my opinion of him in his third season at the club (10/11) with a stunning hat trick against the scousers (as well as 5 against Blackburn), on the way to being the top scorer with 20 in the league. Limited starts last season though make this predicament even more difficult for the players and fans to bear this summer.

One can only feel bad for Berbatov with Fergie reportedly pricing him at £5m despite the rumours of him being on the market for £10m, and even though the hammers are keen to grab him on loan, the gaffer clearly wants get rid of him to give others a chance (Macheda?!?!), or create a new formation with the likes of Kagawa in a more attacking role, perhaps. So what beckons for Berbatov? Only time will tell…

But personally, I hope he doesn’t leave for the big smoke as he still has all the attributes to perform in Europe and boost United’s title bid rather than scrapping for survival at the Boleyn Ground.
