Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed that he no longer gets worked up while watching Manchester United play. The former manager retired in the summer of 2013 after a remarkable term at Old Trafford, but the Red Devils have since struggled in his absence.

The Manchester Evening news reported that the legendary manager finally opened up and revealed about how he has calmed down and enjoys watching Manchester United play this season being away from the dugout.

Even though the English football giants still are facing a tough time after United’s most successfull boss ended his 26-year-old-reign, Sir Alex talked about the progress in his former team this season and revealed that he believes that they have played “lots of great football” under current manager Van Gaal, especially in their narrow 1-0 derby defeat to Manchester City.

The 72-year-old, who is still with the club as a director gave an exclusive interview to Big Issue, wherein he talked about his life post-United and how he is relishing retirement and also the challenges that lie beyond football management.

"I can go and watch the team now without getting so worked up,"

“I mean, we lost to City [earlier this month], but we did okay. Lots of great football. If it had been 11-a-side [United’s Chris Smalling sent off before half-time], who knows?

“I’m enjoying my football, I’m enjoying my family, my friends and I’m enjoying my retirement”, he added.

“I’m an ambassador for United and I’m on the club’s board of directors, so I still watch a lot of games, but I do miss the banter of the dressing room; the players, obviously, but also the backroom staff.

“All lovely people - cleaners, cooks, admin people, kit staff. Really decent, honest people. I don’t see them as much now as I used to.”

The Scotsman was unique in terms of the prolonged success he had at Manchester United, which made him an iconic face in English football. Ferguson has broadened his horizons after retirement, as he lectured students at America’s famed Harvard Business School on his management and leadership technique, and updated his autobiography.
