Arsenal are reportedly close to a deal which will bring the highly rated right-back Calum Chambers to North London from Southampton.

The fire sale seems to continue at Southampton. After losing Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw earlier this summer, the Saints now look likely to lose the services of Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers as well.

With Mauricio Pochettino also scooting off to Spurs in the off-season, new man-in-charge Ronald Koeman will have a huge uphill task on his hand to replicate their eighth place finish of last season.

Meanwhile, at The Emirates, Arsene Wenger now looks intent to add depth to his defensive options with the signing of the teenager.

After signing Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle earlier in the season, Wenger and Arsenal have also been linked Manchester City’s Matija Nastasic in recent times. But that might be offset by Thomas Vermaelen’s reported move away from the Emirates.

Chambers has been touted as “the next big thing” coming out the renowned Southampton academy in recent years. The 19 year old has only 18 starts to his name for the Saints, but seems to have done enough to see the big boys of the league haggle over St. Mary’s for his services.

The signing might also be set to make way for Carl Jenkinson, who has been tipped with a move to West Ham in recent times. The boyhood Arsenal fan has yet to impress upon the hierarchy at Arsenal in his three seasons at the club and might be allowed to move on to further his career.

With Chambers, now looking set for a switch to North London, it might represent the perfect time for a cross-town move for Jenkinson in search of regular football.
