TAL Division 2: Gameweek 9 preview

The season will end with the top two teams squaring off against each other

The final day of the season is now upon us but with Supernova FC crowned champions in GW8, the battle for second will take centre stage. It was quite a race for the title up to Gameweek 6 with Parikrma and Supernova FC taking turns to occupy the top of the table but Parikrma’s loss against Netbusters FC followed by their loss to the to-be champions ensured a one-horse race in the final third of the season.

Diablos FC, who sit in second, have their destiny in their own hands when they fight to claim the other promotion spot to Division 1 but things won't be easy with them having to play Supernova FC in their final game. Although Supernova have won the title, they have the rare opportunity to be the first team to complete the campaign without dropping points so we should be in for a treat.

Parikrma FC meanwhile, will be favorites to win their game against Diego FC and will be hoping Diablos drop points. Athlos United FC, after a promising start failed to really push the top three as they found it hard to compete with the teams above them losing all the games against the three teams above them.

They will look to settle for fourth place but with Netbusters being level on points with them, a win is necessary for Athlos. Both teams are playing games that they will expect to win and it may just come down to goal difference to decide the fourth spot.

Next up, the tussle for 6th spot is between Diego FC and FC Brunton. Both have had a topsy-turvy season with highs and low and will want to end the season on a high. FC Brunton will be favorites for that spot, though, with them playing FK FC, a relatively easier opponent than Parikrma FC, who Diego FC will be facing.

The 8th and 9th spot will be completed by Warriors FC and Phoenix FC, who are currently level on points. Both of them have tough opposition in their final games but have enough talent to cause an upset. FK FC has been condemned to 10th spot because of their dismal run of games having failed to pick up a single point till now and hopefully the festive mood on the final day of the season might just spur them on to go out and get themselves off the mark.

8:00 AM – Phoenix FC v Athlos United FC

We kick off the season finale with the game between Phoenix FC and Athlos United FC. Given the fact that Athlos are playing to secure fourth spot in the table whereas Phoenix FC are only playing for pride, Athlos can be expected to play harder and bag all three points. Phoenix though have a good forward line that will trouble the Athlos defence.

Crystal Ball: Phoenix FC 1- 3 Athlos United FC

9:30 AM – Netbusters FC v Warriors FC

Netbusters FC and Warriors FC play the next game. Netbusters have been in sparkling form and currently reside in 5th in the standings. They, however, need a host of goals to pip Athlos to take over 4th, of course along with the win but a let up by their rivals will make things easier. Netbusters though will have to be wary of the potent Warriors attack, which is always out looking for goals.

Crystal Ball: Netbusters 2-1 Warriors FC

11:00 AM – FK FC v FC Brunton

The third game of the day features FK FC and FC Brunton, with Brunton tipped to claim all three points. FC Brunton are in the race to finish 6th whereas FK FC are destined to finish last. FK FC really need a miracle to get anything out of this one, but a Brunton squad who have come together as a team in the second half might prove tough opposition.

Crystal Ball: FK FC 1 - 2 FC Brunton

1:00 PM- Parikrma FC v Diego FC

The post-lunch session kicks off when Parikrma FC face Diego FC. This is a must-win game for Parikrma for them to stay in contention for second place and will be looking to go out all out on attack and secure the win. Diego, though, might prove tricky opposition, given their especially outstanding defence.

Crystal Ball: Parikrma FC 2 - 1 Diego FC

2:15 PM- Supernova FC v Diablos FC

The final game of the day and the season is the blockbuster between Champions Supernova FC and second placed, Diablos FC. Though the title is decided, second place is still up for grabs with Diablos in pole position to grab that spot, but they will need to come out firing on all cylinders to get a result out of this game. We expect a firecracker of a game; a fitting end to an exciting season.

Crystal Ball: Supernova FC 1-2 Diablos FC
