The Amateur League: Gameweek 5 Preview

TAL Yataghan Proj7

The standing table is finally taking shape as Gameweek 5 kicks off on 26th April. Horizons FC and Saints FC lead the way having taken 12 points out of 12. Gremio FC remains in third despite a demoralizing defeat in Gameweek 4. Four teams are tied on points for fourth whilst Indian Ocean, Mercurial FC and Rare Dare FC are yet to register a win.

8:30 AM – Horizons FC v Samba FC

GW 5 kicks off with Horizons FC taking on Samba FC. Defending champions, Horizons FC have been in blistering form this season, but lest they forget, it was against Samba FC that they faltered last season when they played out a 1-1 draw. Samba FC, on the other hand have been in great form over the past two weeks scoring 5 and conceding none, which means we should be in for a good match up where the defensive mettle Samba have shown thus far will definitely be put to the test.

Crystal Ball: Horizons FC 2 – 0 Samba FC

10:00 AM – Yataghan Bangalore FC v Mavericks FC

A high-octane match-up is on the cards when Yataghan BFC take on Mavericks FC. Yataghan has had a roller coaster season so far but they finally seem to be gelling as a team going by last week’s performance. Mavericks won a thriller last week when they came back from two goals down to defeat Indian Ocean and will be hoping to bring the same offensive strength to this game. It does look like we are in for another high-scoring thriller.

Crystal Ball: Yataghan BFC 2 – 2 Mavericks FC

11:30 AM – Saints FC v Gremio FC

The final game of the morning session has Saints FC drawn against Gremio FC. Saints scored eight last week, as they routed RDFC and will be looking to bring a full strength squad again. Gremio FC started off well but a poor performance against Horizons last week saw them lose ground against top two. If Gremio is to come off with any points against Saints, they need to be more disciplined in defence. Saints have conceded just one goal so far but an interesting tactical match-up is in store.

Crystal Ball: Saints FC 1 – 1 Gremio FC

1:15PM –Rare Dare FC v Mercurial FC

The afternoon session begins with Rare Dare FC taking on Mercurial FC. Both teams haven’t been at their best and sit at the bottom of the table currentlyMercurial FC are 11th and Rare Dare FC are 12th. Both teams have enough talent to reverse the losing trend but must pull up their socks if they are to avoid relegation. RDFC need to strengthen their defence to stop the leaking of goals and Mercurial FC needs to add strength to their attack to give a better balance to the team.

Crystal Ball: Rare Dare FC 2 – 1 Mercurial FC

2:45PM – Indian Ocean v FC Kougen Kikou

Next up, Indian Ocean plays Kougen Kikouin the second game of the afternoon. Indian Ocean haven’t really found their best eleven yet but should feel confident after last week’s spirited performance even though they ended up on the losing side. FC Kougen Kikou have fielded different teams through the weeks and their play often depends on how they set-up. Overall, it should be a tightly contested game with the winner moving a step closer to safety.

Crystal Ball: Indian Ocean 2 – 2 FC Kougen Kikou

4:15PM – Flipkart FC v Project 7

The final game of the day features Flipkart FC and Project 7. Flipkart FC have been in good form rising all the way to fourth place and will be looking to solidify their place in the top half of table. Project 7 have shown glimpses of the talent in their team and need to string a few results together. To do so,they will need to bolster their attack to support Rahul Singh, who has scored all the goals for them so far and their over-reliance on him means that the team’s performance is centered on Rahul’s form.
