There can never be another Steven Gerrard: Thierry Henry

Henry thinks Gerrard is leaving the Premier League at the right time

Former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry paid rich tribute to Steven Gerrard, calling the former England international “unstoppable” and adding that it is a dream for any striker to play alongside him.

The 34-year-old midfielder will bring the curtains down on a 17-year long club career at Liverpool in May and will join his new club Los Angeles Galaxy in July.

“As a midfielder, he was for me – along with Paul Scholes – unstoppable. I would have loved to have played alongside him. We had so many battles and I always used to say to him, it would have been an honour to play with him. He is the dream for any striker. Ask Torres. Ask Suarez. Ask any striker who has played with him. He still does it – that through ball along the ground or in the air, is a dream for any striker,” Henry said.

The timing of the decision is right: Henry

Henry also felt that Gerrard’s call to leave the Anfield-based club came at the right time.

"I don't think he's leaving the Premier League too soon.He is going at the right time,” the 37-year-old said.

He further added that Gerrard shouldn't have much difficulty in getting used to the new surroundings at Los Angeles.

“He is clever enough to adapt over there.Saying that, he will arrive in a team that is already on tune. Trust me, they have either been winning or losing in the final every single year. They are a very good organisation. But Stevie G is Stevie G. It makes me laugh when I see people talking about them the way they [Liverpool] have been recently,” he said.

“Gerrard is irreplaceable”

He added that in the future, several players will come and go, but Gerrard will remain irreplaceable.

“Listen, you will never replace Steven Gerrard. Someone else will come in. But you will not replace Steven Gerrard. Someone else will come in and do something different but you cannot replace Steven Gerrard. I am not saying nobody will come to them but you just can’t replace what he does,” he signed off.
