After a pulsating encounter in the 1986 World Cup final in Mexico when Argentina survived a late West German fightback to win 3-2, the 1990 World Cup final was chance for West Germany to take revenge. They faced Argentina in what is quite commonly called the worst World Cup final ever. The game was filled with players diving, dubious refereeing, and it was lucky that the spectators did not have endure extra time after it looked that the game might remain goalless.
