Video: Christoph Kramer scores the greatest own goal of all time

A visibly distraught Kramer after he scored the goal for Dortmund

German midfielder Christoph Kramer got knocked out in the final of the 2014 World Cup, and suffered a concussion (and claimed not remembering anything from the match), but nobody would have thought that the effects of that incident four months ago would affect him this late. Late on Sunday night, Kramer scored a rather comical own goal in the match between Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, which allowed Dortmund to win the match.

In what was an eagerly contested match, Kramer received the ball just inside his own half with around an hour of the match gone. Instead of passing it to a teammate nearby, the midfielder decided to pass it back to his goalkeeper, Yann Somner and so he lobbed the ball.

What happened next would have made him want to lose his memory again. His attempted 45-yard back-pass from near the half-line floated over Somner and straight into the goal. Ironically, that was the only goal of the game, and it gave Dortmund a much needed win and brought to an end Monchengladbach’s unbeaten run in the Bundesliga this season. Talk about consequence!
