Video: David De Gea nutmegs Iker Casillas in Spain training

David de Gea is currently on international duty with Spain

David De Gea pulled off a cheeky nutmeg on Porto keeper Iker Casillas during a training camp ahead of Spain’s Euro Qualifier against Macedonia. The Manchester United goalkeeper had to endure a tough and eventful week due to the collapse of his long-awaited move to Real Madrid although he seemed to be in good spirits while on international duty with his national team.

The 24-year-old looked to be on his way to Real Madrid in a swap deal with Keylor Navas after the transfer saga that took place in the summer, but complications forced the deal to be abandoned at the last minute. He was selected in Louis van Gaal’s squad for the Champions League despite not playing any matches this season, contradicting any assumptions made about his continued exile from the squad.

There were many pictures of De Gea and United team-mate Juan Mata getting along very well in training, which seems to have indicated that the Spaniard is doing well after a harsh deadline day. He showed more glimpses of backing up that indication with a nonchalant chip of the ball through the legs of Casillas, who was walking to speak with one of the coaches. The new Porto signing acknowledged the piece of skill by showing the keeper a smile, which seems to have dispelled any rumours of the two having a beef with each other.

Spain finds themselves three points behind Slovakia in Group C of the European qualifiers after losing to them back in October, and will be looking to improve their position by beating Macedonia in their next match. The group stage is only halfway through to its completion but the Spanish Armada will want to finish top of their group as they head to France in 2016.
