Tempers were flaring during Manchester United's exciting 2-1 win against Arsenal at the Emirates as Gunners’ midfielder Jack Wilshere was lucky not to be punished for headbutting opponent Marouane Fellaini. The incident took place in the second half when Fellaini appeared to have gone down a tad too easily at the edge of his own box winning a free-kick which Wilshere didn’t take too kindly to. He confronted the former Everton man and appeared to headbutt him on his chest.

There was no retailiation from United’s £ 27.5 million man and instead a look of disbelief was seen on his face. The 5 ft 7 1⁄2 inch Englishman going up against the 6 ft 4 inch Belgian got the internet into overdrive with troll images and jokes created within minutes. Referee Mike Dean who was just yards away from the action gave United a freekick for the original foul despite protests from the United player.

The two men had to be held back by Carrick and Rooney. The Englishman’s night went from bad to worse when he had to go off with an ankle injury after a tackle by the same United player he had a scuffle with. He had earlier missed a golden chance to pot Arsenal ahead hitting his shot straight at goalkeeper David de Gea.

"I don't understand where the anger was coming from - he was angry with the referee and he was a very lucky boy," TV pundit Graeme Souness later said about the incident.
