Moritz Stoppelkamp (#11) scored Paderborn’s second goal from near his own box!

Moritz Stoppelkamp will be the toast of the town in Paderborn after he scored a goal from near his own box – 83m away!

The SC Paderborn midfielder’s goal deep into stoppage time ensured they beat Hannover 96 2-0 to take the newly promoted side to the top of the Bundesliga table.

But how did the goalkeeper miss a kick from so far away? Well, because he was behind Stoppelkamp, inside the opposition’s box.

Hannover had won a free kick in the dying seconds of the game and their goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler went up to give them one more man in the box.

But Paderborn managed to clear the ball, which fell kindly to Stoppelkamp stationed outside the box. He chested the ball down, turned on the spot and kicked it straight down the pitch where Hannover’s goal stood unattended.

A defender tried to run back, but the ball is always faster in such situations and it bounced out of reach and rolled into an empty net.

It still isn’t a world record though – that belongs to Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
