Video: 'Shaolin Soccer' in real life! Incredibly funny assist from player lying on the field

Shaolin soccer-esque assist from Masaki Chugo

We all remember the movie Shaolin Soccer right? Featuring a team of football players with incredible martial arts skills, the movie focused on the promotion of kung-fu through the use of football.

It is clear now that the following video has features that could be thought of as straight out of the screenplay of the Shaolin Soccer movie. Tokyo Verdy’s opening goal set the tone for the rest of the match. Watch the insane assist here:

In what seemed like an assist which could have only been picked from a movie of the same sort, Masaki Chugo set up Alan Pinheiro for the opener, despite having lost his footing. He hooked the ball away from the defender, and then with a second touch passed it in the direction of the onrushing Pinheiro, all while on the ground.

It was surprising that the defenders actually let it happen, considering that there was absolutely no speed in the build-up to the entire move. The reactions of the defenders and goalkeeper indicated the element of surprise, as the ball went in at the near post.
