West Ham 1-3 Arsenal: Key Stats and Player Ratings

Arsenal went back to the top of the league, even if for a brief period as they came from behind to sink a West Ham side that have now sunk into the relegation zone.

Carlton Cole had threatened a huge shock at Upton Park after he gave the Hammers an early second half lead, but a Theo Walcott double, including a rare headed goal, and Lukas Podolski ensured that Arsenal were not to be denied in their onslaught at the summit of the table.

West Ham

Adrian (-22) Conceded three goals, but made five saves. He did however only find a West Ham shirt 20% of the time when distributing, inviting pressure on his defenders.

Joey O’Brien (-17) Lost both his attempted tackles and conceded four fouls, picking up a booking in the process.

James Collins (4) Unfortunately left midway through the first half due to injury, but still had time to make four successful clearances.

James Tomkins (-6) Misplaced 38% of his passes and won only half his tackles, but made eight clearances as West Ham nearly held out.

George McCartney (-4) Completed eight clearances, but lost all three headed duels and found a team-mate with only 71% of his passes.

Mark Noble (51) West Ham’s best player comfortably, as he made five interceptions, completed two out of three take-on attempts and recorded an 81% passing accuracy.

Mohamed Diame (-12) Was unsuccessful in all four take-on attempts and hit the target with just one of three attempts on goal.

Matt Jarvis (-23) Failed to find a Claret shirt with any of his eight crosses and lost five headed duels.

Kevin Nolan (-12) Lost all four headed duels he contested and won just one of his three tackle attempts. Completed just 79% of his passes as he failed to impress following suspension.

Joe Cole (3) Missed the target with both shots on goal and completed only 73% of his passes.

Carlton Cole (14) Scored with one of his two attempts, but lost nine out of 13 headed duels and completed 57% of his passes.

Subs:

Razvan Rat (-4) Made five successful clearances and completed both his attempted crosses, but recorded a very poor 56% passing accuracy.

Guy Demel (-9) Lost half of his tackles, but won his only take-on attempt and made two clearances.

Matt Taylor (-14) Not on the pitch long, but made just 46% of his 13 attempted passes and lost his only tackle attempt.

Arsenal

Wojciech Szczesny (2) Made four saves and completed 70% of his passes, but will be disappointed with the goal he did concede

Bacary Sagna (41) Made ten clearances, won eight headed duels and won two thirds of his tackle attempts as he resisted West Ham’s physical approach.

Per Mertesacker (35) Won all five headed duels, made eight clearances and completed 88% of his 34 passes.

Thomas Vermaelen (16) Made 12 clearances and won six headed duels to keep West Ham at bay.

Kieran Gibbs (23) Made nine clearances, three interceptions and completed his only take-on attempt.

Mikel Arteta (48) Won four out of five tackles and completed a whopping 95% of his passes.

Aaron Ramsey (15) Succumbed to what looked a bad injury, but had one shot on target. Only succeeded with 78% of his passes and conceded two fouls.

Theo Walcott (88) Scored twice from five attempts, connected with three out of four corners and won two of his three take on attempts.

Mesut Ozil (41) - Hit the target with his only shot on goal and completed three of his four crosses and two of his three corners in other masterclass from the German. He also made six key passes, more than the whole West Ham team (4).

Santi Cazorla (82) Had eight attempts on goal, of which two brought a save, while one of his crosses brought about a key pass. He also completed five key passes.

Olivier Giroud (2) Missed the target with both shots and completed a measly 62% of his passes.

Subs:

Lucas Podolski (56) Scored with one of four shots and completed every single one of his 18 passes.

Mathieu Flamini (10) Completed all of his 14 passes and made three clearances.

Nicklas Bendtner (5) Brief appearance saw him complete three out of four passes and have one blocked shot.
