Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is about to take Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha on loan for the rest of the season to help his team battle against relegation. The 21-year-old was signed by former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson last January for a fee of £15 million after watching him at Crystal Palace. Sir Alex’s successor however is not convinced that Zaha is ready for the perils of the Premier League just yet and has used him just twice this season. Zaha made his debut for the Red Devils in the Community Shield victory over Wigan Athletic and gave an impressive performance against the Lactics. The winger was shut out of the squad since then but all that will hopefully change if his loan spell with the Welsh club is successful.

I believe Zaha’s loan spell will transform him from a boy to a man. The talented winger is naturally upset by his lack of first team chances, but David Moyes is doing whats best for his player. The transformation from a Crystal Palace player to a Manchester United player is huge to be modest, and Zaha must always provide consistent performances much like he did at Palace. Moyes has done the right thing by playing Zaha in the Under-21 and Reserve squads as it will help him develop into the world class talent he is destined to be. The England international has been praised for his exploits in the Under-21 side which is a good sign for both parties.

At Cardiff, Zaha can blossom as he can get some guaranteed first team football and help his temporary team out of their predicament much like he did at Palace. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has managed Manchester United’s Reserve team before, has plenty of experience in developing young talent so Zaha will feel at home there. David Moyes was right in his decision to reject Crystal Palace’s loan bid as he wants Zaha to play in unfamiliar surroundings. The player may be a little rebellious now but will surely mature by the end of the season. Manchester United players such as Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley and more recently Angelo Henriquez and Nick Powell have blossomed on loan so hopefully Zaha’s loan will also be fruitful.

Zaha should take an example from fellow winger Andros Townsend. Townsend has been with Tottenham Hotspur since the age of eight but loan out to various clubs over a span of four years before finally breaking into the first team. Townsend never gave up on himself and is now a vital part of Tottenham’s squad as well as being a worthy replacement for Gareth Bale and also earning a deserved chance into England’s first team last year where he scored on his debut. Zaha will have his chance at United much sooner and may very likely become a big part of the Three Lions in the future but will have to wait it out.

David Moyes must be having a plan for Zaha in the future. Nani will most likely leave United in the next transfer window so Zaha will get him big break next season. Manchester United’s formation is set to chance with the arrival of Juan Mata could be the first choice winger in future if he proves to be more consistent than Ashley Young. The Old Trafford faithful are sure to see more of Zaha in the red of Manchester United in the future but will now have to root for him in the red of Cardiff City.
