Zlatan Ibrahimovic slams UK tabloid for printing fake Arsenal quotes

Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has sparked a row with The Mirror, denying that he gave an interview in which he allegedly claimed that he would have “destroyed the Premier League” had he ever played in England.

The tabloid ran the interview, in which he also allegedly claimed to have no regrets over a failed move to Arsenal, yesterday, prompting the Swede to take to twitter to deny that the interview ever took place.

The self-confident Swede, who starred for PSG in the Champions League this week, denied that he had given the interview, tweeting that it is not the first time that a newspaper has attributed quotes to him that he didn’t make.

The story suggested that Ibrahimovic, who has played in France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden during his career, was confident that the Premier League would not have troubled him.

“England is a very strong league, with three or four of the best teams in Europe – but, if I had played there, I would have destroyed it, like I have everywhere else,” Ibrahimovic was attributed as saying.

“Arsenal could have happened, as everybody knows – but I would not do a trial. Who do you think regrets that more, Arsene Wenger or Zlatan?”

Ibrahimovic was said to have pointed to his performance against the England national side in 2012, in which he scored four goals, as evidence of his claim that he would “destroy” the Premier League, allegedly labelling the 4-1 Sweden win as “the Zlatan show.”

“I’m always amused when I am asked about not having tested myself in England,” continued the interview.

“The last time I faced England, which is supposed to be the best players in the Premier League, what happened?”

“Maybe people need to be reminded that it was the Zlatan show.”
