Miss India Sports 2011


#1: Saina Nehwal:

A Khel Ratna awardee Badminton player, who is one of India’s hopes for an Olympic Gold in London 2012. The current World No.3 shot to prominence with her World Junior Badminton Championship title. She also became the only Indian woman to win three back to back a super series in 2010 (equal to Gran Slam in Tennis). She is also the first Indian Woman to reach the singles quarterfinals at the Beijing Olympic.

#2: Sania Mirza: [polldaddy rating="4313419"]

A Padma Shri recipient, Sania Mirza shot to fame winning the Wimbledon Girls Double in 2003 with Kleybanova. The only Indian woman to be seeded n Grand Slam tournaments, she reach her career high ranking of 27 in singles and 18 in doubles. She became the first Indian Woman to win a Grand Slam winning the Australian Open Mix Double with Bhupathi. She is married to Pakistani Cricketer Shoaib Malick.

The first of the ‘Singh Sisters’ to have represented India in Basketball, Divya is the only Indian player other than Geethu Anna Jose offered to play in the international league. Known for her game skills, leadership qualities, academic strength and personality, she led the team at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games. She is currently Studying Sports Management at University of Delaware, Newark and working as an assistant women's basketball coach for UD.

#4: Prashanti Singh:

Another sister from the Indian Basketball family, Prasanti debuted for Indian in the year 2003 and represented India at the 2006 CWG and Guangzhou Asian Games. Under her Captaincy the team won Silver in the 3rd Asian Indoor Games. She is also one of the BFI ‘A’ grade accredited player. A Captain and a shooting guard, the onus of taking this ever improving squad lies in the hand of this beautiful woman.

#5: Akanksha Singh: [polldaddy rating="4313501"]

The second youngest of the four “Singh Sister” of the Indian Basketball Family, Akanksha is India’s 22 year old point guard. Very agile and a skilled ball handler, the 5’6” is one of the first Top Four Players to achieve the ‘A’ Grade from the BFI. She was awarded the Most Valuable Player in MBPL 2010. Making her debut for the senior team in 2003, she is now a prominent member of the national team.

Considered one of the most glamorous face in Indian Sports, Pratima also belongs to the Singh family of Varanasi. Like her sisters, she also won many accolades in national and state championship. She shared the best player award with her sister Akanksha in the All India University Basketball Championship. Pratima, the youngest of the four “Singh Sisters” is also pretty open about her interest in the glamour world and is rumored to have even signed a movie.

A shift from Basketball to Netball took this young women to the Global stage. Selected for the college Netball team because of her height, she made the most of it and earned a call up for the National team trial. After about two years of practice and hard work Prachi captained the team in the CWG Delhi and other international event. She was among the ten Glamorous Indian Faces of the CWG Delhi 2010.

A terrific left handed Badminton Player, Jwala has 13 National Championship titles in her kitty. Partnering V.Diju in Mixed Double they are rank 18th in the world and reach the Final of 2009 Malaysia Super Series. In Womens Double, she partners Aswini Ponnappa (Rank 19 in World) and won the CWG Gold with her. She was married to fellow badminton player Chetan Anand and after divorce she was link to Md. Azharuddin which she firmly denies.

Making a foray into Badminton at the sub Junior level, she has host of title to her kitty. Among the most notable are her CWG Delhi gold in Women’s Double with Jwala Gutta and Silver in the Mixed team event. She also won Gold at the South Asian Games in 2006. Her stage appearance for a dance with partner Jwala Gutta and Cricketer Shreshant, in a sexy outfit for the Sahara India Sports Award made her more famous.

#10: Shikha Tandon: [polldaddy rating="4313444"]

A Champion swimmer from Bangalore with 146 National and 36 International medals to her name. At the age of 13 Shikha competed at the Asian Games and was the only swimmer representing India at the 2004 Athens Olympic. At her prime in 2005, she held seven national records simultaneously, the first by any Indian women. She was also conferred the Arjuna Award in 2005 for her outstanding achievement in swimming.

A Viswanathan Anand fan, Tanya holds the title of International Master and Women Grand Master, becoming the 8thIndian Women to achieve the feat. Just at 8, she won her first international title followed by World and Asian junior titles. The beautiful Arjuna awardee has an inclination towards modeling and has already been seen in ramp showcasing creations of famous designers lik Sanjana Jon, Ashima, Leela Singh.

Playing her first international tournament while in standard-VI, Dipika a famous Squash player from Chennai has grown from strength to strength. Till date, Dipika has won the German Open, Dutch Open, French Open, Australian Open and Scottish Open on the European Junior Squash Circuit. With her great looks she always enjoys media attention and is also reported to have sign a modeling contract with Globus Ltd.

A US born Indian Tennis player, who had represented India in the international tennis circuit. She partnered with Sania Mirza in the Beijing Olympics 2008. However an Indian Govt. ruling in 2008 ruled her out from representing India further which hampered her prospect. She has also represented USA in diverse ITF International team competitions. Her exclusive poses for Maxim India Magazine propelled her towards the glamour world.

#14: Megha Choudhary [polldaddy rating="4314779"]

A Netball player who represented India in the CWG Delhi started playing just 3 and a half years before because of her extraordinary height. However the lanky beautiful school girl quit netball, unhappy with the unfulfilled promises of the Govt. regarding the promised jobs post CWG. She now is trying her hand in Boxing inspired by five times World Women’s Boxing Champion Mary Kom.

#15 : Sharmila Nicolett

A professional Golfer and a style icon. At the age of 11 in 2002 she took up golf and became the youngest Lady Golfer to win the All India Amateur Championship in 2007-08. She represented India in 2006 Asian Games in Doha. A natural in whatever she does, she was a budding athlete, a champion swimmer, excellent in Chess, Tennis and academics too. She has done it all, modeling for Walls Ice Cream and Kwality Biscuits and passing her third grade Piano exam with merit.
