Real Madrid have a distinguished coach right now, but even if there was a managerial vacancy, legendary Brazilian left back Roberto Carlos would not have been given an opportunity to fill the hypothetical gap, according to the man himself. When asked about the possibility to return to Real Madrid as coach the former defender said “I have already spoken to the club but they don't want me. They’ve said that my image is more suited to an ambassadorial role.”
In an age when big name players get opportunities to coach big clubs without much managerial experience, Roberto Carlos is one of the few superstars who has strived to earn their coaching stripes in humbler backgrounds.
He has coached Russian club Anzhi, Turkish sides Sivasspor and Akhisar Belediyespor, as well as Indian Super League team Delhi Dynamos till now, he currently holds an ambassadorial role with Real Madrid. This role, which takes up a lot of his time in the Asia-pacific region, along with his other various business interests have kept the former footballer fairly occupied, but Carlos has indicated his desire to return to coaching in the near future.

He said :When I have the opportunity to return to coaching, I will take it. At the moment, I'm happy as an ambassador.”
He also had some words of support for his former side, saying “The last four games haven't gone as well as hoped, but there's time to recover. There's a terrific atmosphere, great team, and let's see if we can win the league again.”
Roberto Carlos spent 11 highly successful years in Madrid, and he is loved by the fans of Los Blancos. If indeed, Carlos performs very well as a manager, and Madrid are in need of a coach, they would do well to consider the World Cup winner, who scored 47 goals for Real.
However, it must not be forgotten that Real Madrid are in able hands under Carlos’ former teammate Zinedine Zidane, who recently led the Madrid side to a Champions League triumph over their crosstown rivals Atletico.
Real Madrid currently lie in second position in the league table, level on points with leaders Atletico and they will desperately aim to win the La Liga this year, having last won the title under Jose Mourinho, in the 2011/12 season.
