The 4th Asian Zurkhaneh Sports Championship kicked off at Kathmandu

The 4th Asian Zurkhaneh Sports Championship started in Kathmandu, Nepal with Nepal Minister for Youth and Sports Ram Kumar Shrestha inaugurating the Championship at the covered hall of the National Sports Council. Asian Zurkhaneh Sports Federation (AZSC) and Nepal Zurkhaneh Sports Association (NZSA) under the auspices of the International Zurkhaneh Sports Federation (IZSF) are going to organise the 4th Asian Zurkhaneh Sports Championship in Kathmandu, Nepal from 16th -20th August 2013.

Altogether 120 players from nine countries, including host Nepal, India, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Philippines, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Thailand are competing in the championship. Only demonstrations were held on the opening day of the championship while the competition will begin from Saturday. Nepal had previously hosted the second edition of the Asian Zurkhaneh Sports Championship in 2008.

Zurkhaneh is an ancient sport of Iran began from the late Partow Beizai Kashani (1337) era. The game has it’s root and played in the Iranian part from middle Asia to south and west of Asia (Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kirghizstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Iraq, Azerbaijan and Turkey). Zurkhaneh is house of strength, joy of effort, generosity and rivalries spirit, love of country and combined with art and literature. Zurkhaneh is a sport of values.

Zurkhaneh sports have the factors issued to health (Muscular ability, muscular endurance, respiratory and heart endurance, flexibility and body composition) and physical ability and skills (Speed, alacrity, strength, action speed, equilibrium and coordination). IZSF was established on 11 October 2004 in Iran.
