Scottie Scheffler is in supreme form, winning three of four starts in a row and earning his second Masters trophy. In doing so, the golfer became the youngest ever two-time winner at Augusta National. That has some golfers wanting even more to take him down.
Max Homa is one such golfer. He has routinely come up short to Scheffler, and while some golfers have to be feeling frustrated with the relative inability to get one on Scheffler, Homa isn't.
A reporter asked Homa if he believed it would be good for Scheffler to take some paternity leave, but the golfer declined via Golf Magic:
"No. I want to beat his a** pretty bad at some point. So I'd be lying if I wasn't thinking a little bit about last week if Meredith did go into labor."
Homa has praised Scheffler immensely, but added that he wants to beat him, when he is playing at his best. He added that it provides some fun to the game, although it is a challenging feat.
The golfer went on:
"That's the cool part about the opportunities provided us right now is that if you beat Scottie Scheffler pretty much any week, you've had a good week, and I think that's a pretty cool part of where our sport is at right now."
Rather than feeling dejected at having to routinely face someone as good as Scheffler is, Homa believes it inspires him to do better. He said he looks at his game a lot closer to see how he can possibly get to Scheffler's level.
He compared Scheffler's run to Tiger Woods' dominance, but said that Woods' "annihilation" of everyone in every tournament was unprecedented. That was the first time anyone had seen that in golf, and it laid the groundwork for how people view Scheffler right now.
Homa, who finished third behind Scheffler and Ludvig Aberg at the Masters, added:
"Scottie is tremendously talented and a hard worker and sadly, a better person. I wish I could hate him. But it's not utterly shocking what he does. He just does it over and over and over again. That's amazing."
Homa admitted that Scheffler makes it seem realistic that golfers should be the epitome of consistency on the golf course, adding that it seems like he just plays around on the driving range every day when he's in a tournament.
