US Presidents Cup captain Jim Furyk is impressed by Scottie Scheffler’s form. The veteran golfer revealed that he was dialed into Scheffler’s Masters victory but for a particular reason. Owing to his recent performances, Furyk is now looking to transform the 27-year-old into a senior player on his side.

It is pertinent to note that Scheffler had won the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship ahead of the Masters. Notably, he became the first golfer since Tiger Woods in 2001 to win both The Players Trophy and the Green Jacket in the same season. Following this, Furyk has noted that it’s time for Scheffler to ‘transform' from a young player on the team to a 'leader.’

Speaking about Scottie Scheffler during a conference call with media, Jim Furyk said, as quoted by PGATour.com:

“The two biggest events to date are The Players and the Masters and Scottie (Scheffler) dominated both events and finished both events with a flurry and is just on a roll right now… I think he’ll be making the transformation from one of the younger players to now one of the leaders of the team.”

Scheffler currently tops the US Presidents Cup team standings. The World No.1 golfer is unlikely to fall from the top spot ahead of the event’s start at Royal Montreal Golf Club in September.

Furthermore, Furyk, who will lead the American side against Mike Weir’s International team for the 15th edition of the event, said that Tiger Woods’ role in the squad remains uncertain. The final squad is yet to be announced.

Scottie Scheffler’s season so far

Scottie Scheffler has been on a roll this season. The 27-year-old has so far won three events since the start of 2024. The World No.1 golfer registered back-to-back wins at The Players Championship and the 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational ahead of his biggest win at the Masters.

Notably, Scheffler is yet to have a bad finish this season. The ace golfer started his 2024 PGA Tour schedule with The Sentry outing. He finished T5 in the competition. He followed it up with a T17 finish at the American Express, which remains his worst result this season.

The 27-year-old finished T6 at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, T3 at Phoenix Open, and T10 at Genesis Open. He bagged T2 at the Houston Open, just a week before winning his second Green Jacket.

Scottie Scheffler is set to tee up in the 2024 RBC Heritage this week. Unsurprisingly, he is dubbed the favorite to win at Harbour Town Golf Links.
