“This is why Bryson is the man of the people” – Fans applaud Bryson DeChambeau for yelling at a spectator for intercepting a younger fan’s gift ball

2024 PGA Championship - Final Round
Fans loved seeing what Bryson DeChambeau did for a fan

Bryson DeChambeau had a terrific if unsatisfying trip to the PGA Championship, shooting 20 under par and coming in close second. What might stick from this tournament is not any one shot or his performance but how he treated a young fan watching him play.

On the ninth hole, he tossed a ball in the direction of a child to give them a souvenir they'd never forget. However, an older fan intercepted it and seemed to walk away with it. DeChambeau quickly turned back and yelled at the older fan to come back and waited until he was certain the ball was in the hands of the fan he intended to give it to.

The crowd cheered and applauded him, with one calling the golfer a man of the people.

Fans loved seeing the LIV Golf star stand up for the young fans. DeChambeau has been very active on social media trying to reach a younger audience, and he stood on his principles to ensure a member of that audience got the gift he intended for them.

"Now I have to be a Bryson fan," one fan said.
"Is Bryson becoming one of my favorite golfers?" another pondered.
"I was genuinely rooting for Bryson last night. First time since the LIV split I was cheering on a LIV player," another person admitted.
"Was literally just saying that I am starting to like Bryson and this is one of the first things i see moments later. I guess it's official," one said.

DeChambeau has been a controversial figure since he left the PGA Tour, but he won back quite a few fans with his actions at the PGA Championship.

While he certainly won over fans with his gesture, Bryson DeChambeau fell short in his bid to win the PGA Championship. The LIV Golfer was trying to become the second consecutive member of the tour to win this particular Major tournament after Brooks Koepka won in 2023.

He was a few holes ahead of the leader Xander Schauffele, but he hit a clutch birdie to drop his score to -20 on the 18th hole. From there, he could only watch. Schauffele parred the next couple of holes, making for an 18th hole that held a win, a playoff, or a loss.

Schauffele calmly matched Bryson DeChambeau's birdie with his own on the 18th, sinking the winning putt to land his first Major title. He'd only ever been in second at a few Majors over the years.
