Delhi Defenders defeated Kolkata Vipers 31-0 in an Exhibition American football match held at Delhi University Ground on 3rd August. 2013. In a match attended by 2500 spectators, Kolkata proved no match for Delhi. These exhibition matches are being played to popularize the sport in India ahead of the annual Elite Football league of India event.
Mayank Sharma, Lalit Saini and Monu Yadav had touchdowns in the first three quarters but no goal kicks were converted. The score at the end of the first three quarters was 18-0 with Kolkata looking down and out.
In the final quarter, two more touchdowns were scored by Delhi players Rahul Dahiya and Sarib Sajad Qazi. Anant Verma converted a goal kick as Delhi won the match 31-0.
The game was organised in association with “National Student Union of India” and attended by notable personalities like Dr. Yoganand Shastri- Hon’ble Speaker- Delhi Vidhan Sabha, Sh. Kuljit Singh Nagra- MLA and Secretary- All India Congress Committee, Sh Ankit Dedha- Delhi State President- National Student Union of India, Sh. Aditya Narayan Mishra- President -Delhi University Teachers Association and many others.
Eight teams will be taking part in this edition of Elite Football League of India set to begin on 12th of August.
