Pakistan Punjab chief minister to visit Ludhiana

Chandigarh, Nov 26 (IANS) Pakistan Punjab’s Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif will visit Punjab’s industrial hub Ludhiana next month, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said Tuesday.

Sharif, brother of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, will be the chief guest of the closing ceremony of the 4th edition of the World Cup Kabaddi (WCK) on Dec 14. The closing ceremony will be held in Ludhiana, 110 km from here.

“As many as 20 nations would vie for the title, out of which 12 in men section and eight teams in the women section,” Badal told media here Tuesday.

The WCK opening ceremony will be held at Bathinda Nov 30. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will inaugurate the event.

“Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra will perform at the opening ceremony at Bathinda and actor Ranveer Singh will perform at the concluding ceremony at Ludhiana,” Badal said.

The WCK will see kabaddi teams from various countries vying for prize money of Rs 6.67 crore.

The kabaddi cup, being organized by the Punjab government’s sports department, will be held at multiple locations across Punjab from Nov 30 to Dec 14.

Teams from India, Pakistan, Iran, England, Spain, Denmark, Scotland, US, Canada, Argentina, Sierra Leone and Kenya would participate in men’s section, whereas in women section, teams from India, Pakistan, England, Denmark, US, Mexico, Kenya and New Zealand would participate.
