Commentary

Yet again a one-sided contest in this World Cup. The tournament hasn't provided any close matches so far and perhaps Pakistan can challenge Sri Lanka's massive score and make a match of that. England were clinical in their display and will be pretty happy with the performance after the drubbing they received against New Zealand. Bangladesh have a lot to ponder on. The top order has to be more sensible in negotiating the new ball. Bangladesh will now move to Chennai to square off against New Zealand on October 13 while England will travel to Delhi for their next clash against Afghanistan on October 15. Like always it was a pleasure bringing all the live updates on the behalf of Sportskeeda for the run chase. Jos Buttler (England captain): Really good performance. Bounced back from the drubbing we received in the first game. Just the back end of the innings we would have wanted to get a few more. That’s one area where we can improve. Brilliant opening partnership from Malan and Bairstow and then Malan and Root and obviously Malan scoring that big century. You are always looking for that big score. That’s a nice place to be in at this stage. Yeah I think these are the challenges of the tournament. Reading the conditions well will be important. Reece Topley coming and bowling splendidly today worked wonders.

Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh captain): When we won the toss, it was a good toss to win. Last night there was rain, we could see snow in the mountain. We didnt start well in the first few overs and with the quality they have, they will come hard at us. We came back strongly in the last 10 overs but that was little too late. When you lose 3 wickets early in a run chase of 350, it gets very difficult. We were little here and there. We couldnt pitch the ball in the right areas when we needed to. Once England got the momentum, they never looked back. The position they were in, they could have scored 380-390 but overall 320-330 you fancy your chances. We cannot put our heads down. We have a tough competition against New Zealand. We have to move on and think about the positives. Doing the right thing and focussing on one game at a time.

Dawid Malan, Player of the Match: (On what he puts his recent success down to) No idea. Experience, if anything. Nice to contribute. Long journey to get to this stage. To get here is fantastic and to put in that sort of performance is great as well. (On his batting against spin) I think sometimes people create a narrative to justify their own narrative or views. It has always been there (the game against spin). Sometimes I play good shots, sometimes I play bad shots. It is about cashing in what you feel is your bowling on the day. (On the batting unit) If you Joe Root at 3, who scores runs all the times, it allows us to play as we see fit. It allows us to play with freedom. (On how he manages to convert his starts into big scores) Just the hunger really. I am desperate to do well in this format and prove people wrong.

It turned out to be a rather one sided contest as England crushed Bangladesh by a massive runs to win their first game of the World Cup. Bangladesh was never really in the run chase as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Litton Das began with three boundaries in the first over of Chris Woakes but Reece Topley who was playing his first World Cup match made an immediate impact. He nicked out Tanzid Hasan before dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto the very next ball. Shakib Al Hasan received a corker which came back in and then straightened at the last moment to disturb the stumps.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das then built a good partnership to ignite the hopes of the Bangladesh fans. Litton in particular looked in blistering touch and played some delectable strokes en route to 76 off 66 deliveries. His knock was studded with 7 fours and a couple of sixes but just when it looked, he would turn it for the Bangla Tigers, he edged an off-cutter from Chris Woakes straight to Jos Buttler. He expected the ball to grip but instead it went straight and took the outside edge.

From there on, Rahim tried to resurrect the sinking ship in the company of Towhid Hridoy. They batted well but couldn't quite score anywhere close to the rate required. Rahim reached a half-century and tried to be aggressive and perished at the hands of Topley. He slashed at a short delivery and found the deep third-man fielder.

Hridoy struggled his way through to 38 before edging a ripping leg break from Livingstone straight to Buttler. Wickets kept falling and it was just a mere formality from there on. Mark Wood came back for his 3rd spell and rattled the stumps of Shoriful Islam. It was Sam Curran who finished the match with the wicket of Taskin Ahmed to hand England a big victory which will do a world of good to their confidence.

Well Sam Curran has disloged it now. He has finished this game and England after the opening defeat have bounced back in grand style in the 2nd match at Dharamashala. A winning margin of 136 runs which will do wonders to their net run rate and confidence. A clinical all-round showing and Bangladesh were throughly outplayed in all three departments of the game.

48.2 Sam Curran to Taskin Ahmed, HITS THE STUMPS AGAIN, AND THIS TIME IT IS ALL OVER! ENGLAND WIN BY 137 RUNS! Excellent yorker that hones in on middle stump. Tasking continues swinging like a rusty gate and misses the ball completely. Thuds into middle stump, and England have bounced back from their opening-day defeat, and have done so rather emphatically!

That might have clattered onto the stumps and the bails didn't come off. This is hard to beleive. That really clattered onto the side of the leg stump but bails remains intact.

48.1 Sam Curran to Taskin Ahmed, WAS THAT A CHANCE?! Length on middle and leg. Taskin has an almighty slog across the line. Seems to miss it but there was a sound as the ball went past him. Did it flick the inside edge, or did it flick the outside of leg stump?! Buttler put it down anyway, but looks it smashed into leg stump, with the bails not falling off!

A slower delivery to complete Mark Wood's set of 10. Maybe he was short of game time ahead of the match against New Zealand. Much better this time around from Wood. He bowled with venom and changed the pace well.
