Known more for her TV show, Lizard Lick Towing, Amy Shirley is a woman of many talents. And one of her latest ones…is trying her hand at MMA. Amy Lynn Vaughan was born in Wake Forest North Carolina on May 4, 1980. She had always been very outgoing and independent and heavily involved with being fit. Throughout high school, she was always into aerobics and cheerleading as well as gymnastics and became an immense cardio freak.
Amy began powerlifting in 2002 and she met her husband, Ron Shirley. After two months of intense training Ron talked her into doing a push/pull meet in South Carolina, sanctioned by the APA. After her first show she was hooked. She went on to set two Junior World Records and began to live, sleep and eat powerlifting and developed an addiction to the sport. She is still a full time college student in the radiology field and also works a full time job as the vice president of a repossession company called Lizard Lick Towing.
Lizard Lick Towing and Recovery is a local towing and recovery Company owned and operated by Lizard Lick Mayor Pro-tem Ronnie Shirley and Amy. Ron Shirley started Lizard Lick Towing in 1998 with a single truck, along with wife Amy. In 10 years, the company grew to 15 staff members and a fleet of 20 trucks. According to the local Eastern Wake News, the television series got its start at the end of August 2008, when the station sent a cameraman down for one day of shooting and that was all it took for a contract to be written.
Those at the truTv network were merely scouting out prospects at the time, but after realizing Amy Shirley was not only a power lifter, but a mortician and co-owner of the recovery business, they realized there was more to the picture than originally anticipated. In addition, they soon discovered that Ronnie is a "walking reality show". Robyn Hutt, the truTV executive in charge of the show, was quoted by the Raleigh News and Observer "We really fell in love with Lizard Lick". The Shirleys are "dynamic and entertaining characters"
This show features Amy and her husband, Ron who along with their team go about repossessing overdue items. Most of the episodes are violent and the characters often times resort to swearing and get into brawls. It is in one of these episodes that Amy trains in MMA for a fight against Sheila “Brickhouse” Martin, a woman whose car had been reposed by Amy and her crew. Sheila makes several other appearances throughout the season which usually always ended up in fights. However, in the MMA episode, the fight never took place. Sheila found herself arrested at ringside and so the fight never took place. For a reality show that boasts about its authenticity, the events which took place hardly make you think so. Well whether this is just to boost her fame, or she might actually be interested in a career in MMA, let’s just hope Amy Shirley actually puts up a show, instead of scripting it.
