UFC Fight Night Results: FN Lewis vs Abdurakhimov, 12/9/16

Lewis put in a a solid performance

The UFC’s 102nd Fight Night Event from Albany, New York went down today (Friday, December 9, 2016), featuring a heavyweight collision between Derrick Lewis and Shamil Abdurakhimov and you can check out the results from the event here:

Main Card (UFC Fight Pass)

Heavyweight: Derrick Lewis def. Shamil Abdurakhimov via R4 TKO (punches, 3:24)

In the main event, Abdurakhimov continuously caught Lewis’ kicks and took him down; however, Lewis continuously got right back up. A gassed Abdurakhimov was then taken down and mounted. Lewis took advantage and pounded away for the fourth round finish.

Heavyweight: Francis Ngannou def. Anthony Hamilton via R1 submission (kimura, 1:57)

An incredible performance from one of the brightest prospects in the UFC’s heavyweight division. Anthony Hamilton shot in for a takedown on Ngannou. However, the Frenchman would immediately turn that into a kimura for the quick round one submission win.

Light Heavyweight: Corey Anderson def. Sean O'Connell via R2 TKO (punches, 2:36)

Anderson had control of this one from start to finish. Anderson used his powerful wrestling technique to get the fight to the ground and pounded away at O’Connell for the second round TKO win.

Light Heavyweight: Gian Villante def. Saparbek Safarov via R2 TKO (punches and elbows, 2:54)

This was a fight that featured plenty of big shots and rocked bodies, Villante vs. Safarov could arguably have been the fight of the night. The first round featured a Villante striking clinic that had Safarov rocked on multiple occasions. In the second round, Safarov’s knee was severely injured, dwindling his movement ability, allowing Villante to go in for the kill and earn a second-round TKO win.

Preliminary Card (UFC Fight Pass)

Catchweight (116.4 lbs): Justine Kish def. Ashley Yoder via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

This was one of the most entertaining fights on the card. Kish and Yoder put on an exciting bout featuring their respective striking and ground games, however, the judges would give the fight to Kish, who they felt was the better combatant.

Welterweight: Randy Brown def. Brian Camozzi via R2 TKO (knee and punches, 1:35)

An exciting first round for this one as Brown was caught in a deep armbar from Camozzi; however, the New York native was able to rally and escape. In the second round, Brown landed a knee in the clinch that dropped Camozzi, allowing him to finish Camozzi off for the win.

Middleweight: Gerald Meerschaert def. Joe Gigliotti via R1 submission (anaconda choke, 4:12)

Gigliotti was cut early on the ground after a scramble and gave up position to allow Meerschaert to take his back. Meerschaert was able to lock in the Anaconda choke to force the tap for the win.

Middleweight: Andrew Sanchez def. Trevor Smith via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

A lopsided affair from start to finish. This bout featured Sanchez showing off his amazing stand-up arsenal for the entirety of the fight against Trevor Smith, who looked flustered throughout the match’s progression.

Featherweight: Shane Burgos def. Tiago Trator via unanimous decision (30-26, 29-28, 29-27)

An entertaining bout to say the least. The first round saw Tiago land the better shots which gave him the round; however, Burgos would rock Trator on multiple occasions throughout the next two rounds to take the fight.

Lightweight: Marc Diakiese def. Frankie Perez via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

In a lightweight bout between two of the best prospects the division has to offer, it certainly didn’t disappoint. In the first round, Diakiese was able to take it with his superior wrestling ability, but the second round saw Perez land a takedown of his own and cut Diakiese above his eye to split it even. Diakiese returned to his wrestling roots in round three to take the round, and the fight with a unanimous decision win.

Middleweight: Ryan Janes def. Keith Berish via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

The first round showed off Berish’s great power and striking ability, as he clearly took the round. Janes would respond with a patient approach for the next two rounds that would give him the last two rounds for the win.

Women's Strawweight: Juliana Lima def. JJ Aldrich via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

After three rounds of an excellent wrestling performance from Julianna Lima, the fighter out of Houston was able to take home a lopsided victory over Lima in the night’s opening bout.
