UFC News: Glover Teixeira vs Jimi Manuwa being planned for UFC 208

Two heavy hitters are expected to meet inside the Octagon at UFC 208

A massive light heavyweight bout could be on the horizon for the UFC, as heavy hitters Glover Teixeira and Jimi Manuwa are reportedly being targeted to throw down at UFC 208 in Anaheim, California next year.

The event will kick off the UFC’s year of pay-per-views (PPVs) for 2017, after closing the 2016 year with a massive UFC 207 card that features names such as Ronda Rousey, Amanda Nunes, Dominick Cruz, Cody Garbrandt, Cain Velasquez, and Fabricio Werdum.

Teixeira is coming off a vicious first round knockout loss to Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson in the co-main event of UFC 202 in August in which ‘Rumble’ downed the Brazilian in only 13 seconds.

Prior to that, however, he was able to rack up an impressive three-fight win streak over names such as Ovince Saint Preux, Patrick Cummins and Rashad Evans to earn himself a contender’s match against Johnson. Sadly, he will have to get back on the winning board before earning another such opportunity again.

Manuwa is an extremely talented light heavyweight mixed martial arts (MMA) competitor who only has two losses on his career record. The losses have come at the hands of two elite title competitors in Anthony Johnson and Alexander Gustafsson.

After getting knocked out by ‘Rumble’ at UFC 191 in September of last year, Manuwa returned with a vicious knockout victory of his own over Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 204 in October.

No confirmation on the bout between Manua and Teixeira has come yet, but we’ll keep you updated as we learn more. UFC 208 goes down live on PPV from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on January 21, 2017.
