UFC News: Ronda Rousey responds to Amanda Nunes' claim that she will finish her in the first round

Rousey squares off with Nunes during UFC 205 fightweek

Former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion and MMA megastar Ronda Rousey, is making her return to the Octagon on the 31st of December, headlining the card against the current Champion Amanda Nunes.

While the media coverage for the event hasn’t quite begun in all earnest, there have been quips exchanged from one corner to the other, with Rousey the latest to comment upon Amanda Nunes claiming that she will finish the former Champion in the first round when she returns.

Appearing on the Conan O’Brien show earlier this week, Rousey spoke about her preparation for her UFC 207 and also had this to say when confronted with Nunes’ comments; "Well she kind of has to say that because everyone knows she gasses out in the second so she has to tell herself that," Rousey said.

"What else is she going to tell herself? She has to sleep at night somehow."

Rousey, who last fought at UFC 193 when she was soundly beaten by Holly Holm, has been out of the sport for around a year now, during which time the Bantamweight Title has changed hands thrice.

Holly Holm, who secured a spectacular head kick knockout over Rousey, could have waited for her to return to defend the title in a big money rematch but instead chose to face then-number one contender Miesha Tate.

Tate won the title after choking Holm out in the 5th round at UFC 196, before losing it inside one round to Amanda Nunes at UFC 200. Now that Rousey has returned from her hiatus, logic dictated that she be granted an immediate title shot given how dominant a champion she was.
