Rousey to play the lead in ‘Road House’ remake

‘Road House’ is a cult classic starring Patrick Swayze and was first released in 1989, when it received a lukewarm response to begin with, but went on to achieve a loyal and large fanbase over the years. Latest news confirm that the movie is being remade and Ronda Rousey has been cast in the role originally essayed by the late Patrick Swayze.

Ronda issued the following statement:

"It is a great honor to play a part in celebrating the life of a man that inspired so many. I couldn't be more grateful to have this opportunity to pay respect to the beloved Patrick Swayze. I promise to work incessantly to make sure this project is a tribute his family and fans can be proud of.”

Prior to making the announcement, Rousey is said to have reached out to Swayze’s widow, Lisa Nieme for her approval to play the role, which hse is said to have got. the script for the remake is still to be confirmed.

For Ronda Rousey, this is another feather in her cap and while she is no stranger to movies, having acted in ‘Expendables 3’ and ‘Furious 7’, this will be the first time she is playing the lead in an action flick. She is also set to defend her women’s bantamweight championship against Holly Holm on November 14 in Melbourne, Australia this year.
