Greater Noida, Sep 29 (IANS) Arjun Maini and Vishnu Prasad won the two races at the third round of the 16th JK Tyre Racing Championship at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) here Sunday.
In the second race of the JK Racing India Series, championship leader Prasad took a hard earned victory over winner of the first race Maini by a mere 1.3 seconds. Mahaveer Rangunathan, who was penalised 30 seconds in the first race for making a jump start, made good by claiming third a further 6.8 seconds adrift of the race winner.
But in Race 3, Prasad made a great start and jumped leader Maini by the end of the first lap, opening up the lead. Behind him, Maini and Chittesh Mandody, who started sixth, managed to slot into third.
Prasad looked like having the race under control for nine laps but on the final lap, made an error going into the first corner. Maini grabbed the opportunity and squeezed Prasad off the racing line on the back straight. The pair made light contact but it was enough for Maini to take the lead.
Even before Prasad could recover from the shock, Mandody too pounced upon the chance to go past the Chennai driver. The top three drivers took the chequered flag in that order.
“It was a very good weekend in which I managed to score very useful points and keep Vishnu in sight for the championship. I would have liked to make it three out of three, but I’ll try to achieve that in the final round,” said Maini.
In the Volkswagen Polo R Cup, Jeffrey Kruger made a clean sweep by winning both races Sunday, registering three victories from three races this weekend.
In the second race, Karthik Tharani and Lee Keshav Gupta finished second and third, respectively while in the third race, Chennai’s Prashant Tharani finished second and Yatin Magu took third.
In the FLGB Formula 4′s second race, run after early showers on a wet track, Coimbatore’s Sarosh Hataria showed experience in slippery conditions. Despite spinning and losing track position, Hataria clawed back into the lead by the time the chequered flag was shown. Ameya Bafna, who was second till the penultimate lap, spun at the last corner, losing a position to Advait Deodhar but still had enough lead to claim third.
In the third race, Hataria won again with Bafna and Kartik Shankar completing the top three.
