Wayne Rooney Biography

Wayne Mark Rooney is an English footballer who plays as a striker for Manchester United and the England national team. Celebrated as one of the hottest prospects in the football world, Rooney entered the spotlight after breaking into the English side at 17, and has since then shown immense potential to stay at the top of the game for years to come. Rooney came up through the ranks in the Everton academy and claimed international fame after scoring a last-minute winning goal against Arsenal. Then just 16, he became the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history in the process. Having shown vigorous strength and skill beyond his years, he was signed on by Manchester United for £25.6 million - the highest fee ever paid for a player under 20 years old. The powerful frontman lived up to the hype by scoring a hat-trick on his debut in 2004 over Fenerbache in the Champions League and helping United win three straight Premier League titles between 2006-2009, while also reaping individual plaudits. Rooney was United's top league scorer that season with 11 goals, and was credited with the PFA Young Player of the Year award. The 2009-10 season proved to be the highlight of Rooney's career. He played 42 games for United that season with an astonishing score of 34 goals to his credit, following which he was awarded the PFA Players' Player of the Year and the FWA Footballer of the Year awards.
