After the resounding success of the Airtel Delhi Marathon, which saw Indian athlete Lalita Babar set a new National Record, we’re now in Bengaluru for the SBI Bangalore Midnight Marathon, scheduled for December 5. The venue for the marathon is KTPO, Whitefield, near the SAP Labs main gate.
The ninth edition of the marathon was formally announced during a gathering on October 8 2015, with ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal unveiling the theme “Run for happy Bengaluru” for the event.
Race Events and Categories:
Community Relay Race
There are different events planned for the day, commencing as early as 5PM, with the Community Relay Race. This would involve different communities and give them a chance to participate in the fun and energy filled atmosphere of a marathon. Each community would be represented by a Team of 5, in a relay race, wherein each member would run 1 km and pass the baton to the following member.
IT City Fun Ride
The IT City Fun Ride follows next, which is meant for those who aren’t professional, but love to run. Entire families can participate in this 5 Km race.
Women’s 10K Run
The Women’s 10K Run would be organized at 8 PM which is meant exclusively for women to celebrate a sense of achievement and victory.
Target Open 10K Run
The Target Open 10K Run is aimed at the amalgamation of celebrities and runners, wherein the runners run along with the celebs who are generally the ambassadors for various events. This is also open to corporate participation and fund generation for the charity causes.
SBI Full Marathon
The main event begins thenceforward with the Full Marathon at 12 Midnight. The length of the marathon is 42.195 Km, and it will unfold in the heart of the city’s IT area. This event, held at midnight, has gained a reputation and has developed into an event of the highest standards within a few years.
Carewell Half Marathon
The Half Marathon would run parallel to the Full Marathon, commencing at 12 in the Midnight, with a total length of 21 Km.
Airbus Corporate Relay
As the name suggests, the Airbus Corporate Relay is an event for the corporates, wherein teams of 8 members are required to run the entire length of the Full Marathon. It is a relay event where each member has to pass the baton to the succeeding member, after dividing the distance equally amongst them.
Prize Money
While certificates and medals would be given to every participant, the prize money for the event is also handsome. The winners of the Men’s and Women’s Full Marathon stand to win a â?¹70,000 cash prize, while the winners of the Half Marathon would get â?¹50,000
