Ultra distance runner Scott Jurek to arrive in India

Scott Jurek will be visiting three cities

The sport of running has taken India by storm – the last 3 years have seen this sport grow from those of a selected few to that of the masses. The numbers have grown multi-fold and it’s common to see runners hit the streets during the wee hours of the morning.

2014 was a year, which bought some world-renowned athletes to India including Carl Lewis, Usain Bolt and Haile Gebrselassie. From the best in sprinting through to the best in the marathon distance – the entire gambut was covered. And now, in the very same fashion, Protons Sports & Fitness is bringing an ultra running legend, Scott Jurek to India. For those who are not aware, ultra-distance is any distance beyond the marathon, 42.2K.

To put things in perspective, Scott Jurek's outstanding competitive resume includes victories in nearly all of ultra running's elite trail and road events, including the historic 153-mile Spartathlon, the Hardrock 100Miler, the Badwater 135-mile Ultramarathon, the Miwok 100K, and—his signature race—the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run, which he won a record seven straight times.

The Washington Times named him one of the top runners of the decade, Runner's World awarded him a Hero of Running and Ultrarunning Magazine named him Ultra-Runner of the Year three times. In 2010, he set a new US all-surface record in the 24-Hour Run with 165.7 miles—6.5 marathons in one day—for which he was named USA Today's Athlete of the Week. And only a few months prior to coming down to India, he smashed yet another record through the conquest of the US Appalachian trails. A record-breaking 46 days, 8 hours, and 7 minutes on foot for 2,189 miles, across 14 US states (from Georgia to Maine), and 515,000 feet of elevation change where he averaged nearly 50 miles a day.
