Commonwealth Games 2014: Shreyasi Singh claims silver in women's double trap event

After winning five medals yesterday, Indian shooters started the fourth day of the games on a good note as Shreyasi Singh grabbed the silver medal in women’s double trap event.

Shreyasi, a 22 year old shooter from New Delhi shot a total of 92 targets and finished just 2 points behind the gold medalist English shooter Charlotte Kerwood. Another Indian shooter Varsha Varman finished on 5th place with 88 points. Rachel Parish of England with a total of 91 points clinched the bronze medal.

Shreyasi, who finished 6th at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Tucson, Arizona in April, 2014 started the match on a positive side as she shot 22 targets out of 25 in the first round. She was at her best in the next round as she shot 24 targets and moved up to 2nd position with 46 points after the completion of the second round.

Shreyasi again dropped back to 3rd position at the completion of round 3, but made a brilliant comeback in the final round to clinch the silver plate.

This was India’s 8th silver medal and 18th overall. Indian team with a total of 5 golds, 8 silvers and 5 bronze are on 5th position.

Australia with a total of 54 medals (19G + 14S + 21B) are sitting on top, whereas English team with 18 golds,14 Silvers and 15 bronze medals are on second spot.
