Manchester United and Barcelona faced off for the second consecutive time in the 2009 final of the UEFA Champions League. United were favourites to become the first team in the Champions League era to defend the title and Barcelona were looking to avenge their 2008 semi-final loss at the Old Trafford. But above all, it was also the showdown between world’s two best players Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

United got to a flying start as they put Barcelona on the back foot in the opening minutes. But it was Barca who scored the opener through Samuel Eto’o and put pressure on the defending champions.
