5 players Arsenal should target in January 2015

Bryan

With the transfer window soon approaching, Arsenal are one of the teams that are in major need of reinforcement – particularly in midfield and on the wings after a disastrous start to this season. With Jack Wilshere out until March, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini not performing as expected in the centre of midfield, Arsenal definitely need to buy a strong defensive midfielder.Ever since Patrick Vieira left, they were never able to find a suitable replacement for him, so buying a player in that position is a must. Along with a new midfileder, they also need to buy a winger. With Santi Cazorla not in his finest form this season compared to previous campaigns, and Ozil injured and taking a long time to settle in, Wenger needs to add a creative winger too. Here are five player Arsenal should target this January.

#1 Sami Khedira

After the World Cup, the German international was expected to leave Real Madrid after they brought in Toni Kroos, but he choose to stay on. But he has hardly got any playing time with almost half the season over.

With just 7 appearances this season, the midfielder has not even been named on the substitute bench for Real Madrid for over a month despite being fit. With rumours going around that he is keen on leaving and is also willing to take a pay cut to join a club, it is the perfect opportunity for Arsenal to snap him up.

He will be the perfect addition to Arsenal’s central midfield. And with three of his German compatriots already in the London club, it will not be difficult for him to settle in. Also, with an asking price of just £6 million from Madrid because he will be a free agent in summer, there is no reason why Arsenal should not go after him.

#2 Grzegorz Krychowiak

The Polish midfielder joined Sevilla this season from French side Reims. Since then, his value has shot up with clubs all over Europe after his signature. The midfielder is the only player who has played every game for Sevilla this season and has already picked up numerous man of the match awards.

With a buyout clause of £24 million, Sevilla are clearly trying to keep their star players away from top clubs. But if he continues to perform the way he is doing now, he is only going to attract more attention. Arsenal need to keep a good eye on his development.

With over £50 million available to Arsene Wenger to spend and a defensive midfielder a necessity, investing in this 24-year-old player will benefit the club in the long run.

#3 Lucas Silva

The next big thing in Brazilian football, Lucas Silva has become one of the hottest properties in football after his consistent performances helped Cruzeiro win the Brazilian League.

With Arsenal in desperate need of a pacy and creative winger, targeting him would be perfect. It has been long since a Brazilian flourished in Arsenal colours, the last being Gilberto Silva and Eduardo.

Personally, I feel Wenger should do all he can to get this star to the Emirates Stadium. With an asking price of just £12 million, it will be a shame to see yet another future star not join Arsenal.

#4 Morgan Schneiderlin

After establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League in the 2013/14 season, Schnerderlin was keen to move away from St Mary’s Stadium with a view to play in the Champions League. The following season he was forced to stay with the Saints and he has been key for Southampton this season who currently sit fifth in the league table aafter 15 games.

With the January transfer window soon approaching and Schneiderlin still keen on a move away from Southampton, it would not be such a bad idea to buy him. The Frenchman is in the best form of his career at the moment. With an asking price of just £15 million, he would perfectly fit the Arsenal midfield.

#5 Marco Reus

Even though Arsenal failed to sign the German star in the summer, they should continue to pursue him in January. Reus, one of the most talented footballers in the world right now, is wanted by every top European club at the moment.

With Dortmund struggling at the moment in the Bundesliga, Reus too will be wanting to move on and find a new challenge somewhere else. Dourtmund expect around £45 million for the midfielder and he will be worth every penny. It will take a lot from Arsene Wenger to convince him and to get him to the club, but if they manage to do so it will be a major coup.

Wenger knows he needs to spend now to improve the club. If he does spend a fortune and get him to the club, Arsenal will definitely have one of the most dangerous attacking line ups in Europe.
