Real Madrid registered a comfortable 3-1 win victory over rivals Barcelona. The long awaited El Clasico is finally over, and Real Madrid stand proud with their heads held high following a comfortable 3-1 over Barcelona at Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday. Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe and Karim Benzema ensured that Real Madrid take all the three points away from this home encounter despite being a goal down in the first three minutes of the match after a goal from Neymar. You can watch the goals here and read the match report here. The match saw many records being broken and many being created, and in this slideshow, we take a look at ten such instances:

#1 Cristiano Ronaldos never ending goal scoring record

Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo embraces Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti after the win over Barcelona.

The Real Madrid forward is already heading for yet another stellar season, and with his goal against Barcelona in this match, he increases his long-standing tally of scoring in every league match at the Santiago Bernabeu since September 2013.

Ronaldo has 16 goals to his name in the La Liga from eight starts which is almost double to that of Neymar’s, who is second in the list.

#2 Who has scored the highest number of goals from the penalty spot?

Cristiano Ronaldo Penalty
Cristiano Ronaldo opens the scoring for Real Madrid from the penalty spot kick.

After Neymar’s early goal from a pass off Luis Suarez, Real Madrid found their break from the penalty spot, something that has always been a big decider in these gruesome encounters.

Real Madrid’s former Mexican striker Hugo Sanchez holds the record for the highest number of goals from penalty with 5 goals to his name. Cristiano Ronaldo now shares the second spot with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi who are both tied with four goals, with legends like Juanito, Ronald Koeman and Míchel on the third place.

It should also be noted that from the last fifteen penalties called in during Clasicos, 6 have been in favour of Real Madrid who scored all of them while 9 have been in favour of Barcelona of which one wasn’t fruitful.

#3 Ronaldo breaks Claudio Bravo\'s clean sheet record

Claudio Bravo
Claudio Bravo saw his record clean sheet run end as Real Madrid slotted three goals past the keeper.

The Chilean goalkeeper had a sensational start to his Barcelona season which saw concede zero goals in 754 minutes until tonight when Ronaldo scored the first goal for Real Madrid.

He had earlier secured clean sheets in ties against Elche, Villarreal, Athletic Club, Levante, Malaga, Granada, Rayo Vallecano, and Eibar but just fell short of 70 minutes for overtaking the record set by former Barcelona keeper Miguel Reina who clocked 824 minutes without conceding a goal in the 1972/73 season.

Overall in the La Liga, Claudio’s new record finds himself on the fifth spot: Abel Resino on top with 1274 minutes, Miguel Reina on second with 0824 minutes followed by Edgardo Madinabeytia with 791 minutes and Bravo.

#4 Records broken by Karim Benzema

Karim Benzema
Karim Benzema celebrates his goal.

With a goal against Barcelona, Karim Benzema can take a breath as perhaps the criticism towards the striker may come into a halt. Speaking of records, the Frenchman’s goal tonight takes his tally against Barcelona at home to a brilliant five goals from four appearances.

He also became the third Real Madrid player ever to have scored against Barcelona in the Santiago Bernabeu in four consecutive La Liga seasons, third to only Santillana and Hugo Sánchez.

#5 Cristiano Ronaldo is the penalty guru

If already not evident enough, Cristiano Ronaldo continued his high success rate from the penalty spot-kick as he slotted in one past Bravo to score Real Madrid first to take his tally to 17 in the last three seasons. He has now scored more penalties in the league (over the last three seasons) than any other players from Europe’s top five leagues.

#6 Cristiano Ronaldo\'s performance against Barcelona

Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates his 15th goal in the El Clasico.

Cristiano Ronaldo proves to be a constant threat against Barcelona as he scored his 15th against them tonight, a record only second to his 18-goal tally against Sevilla. Looking at his much recent form against the Catalan side, Cristiano records six goals from his last eight La Liga matches with three goals scored from the penalty.

This goal has taken him to the third spot with only Lionel Messi and Alfredo Di Stefano ahead of him with 21 and 18 each to their name.

#7 Toni Kroos notching up assists for fun

Toni Kroos
Toni Kroos with yet another solid display in the White shirt.

Since his move to Real Madrid from Bayern Munich earlier this summer, Toni Kroos has been impressing the critics with his consistent performance on the pitch. He set-up the goal for Pepe tonight, taking his assist tally to 5 from 9 appearances this season, an assist more from what he had notched last season with Bayern Munich from 29 matches.

He is also Real Madrid’s current top assister in the La Liga, and has set up three goals from set pieces, an area that has always been a major concern for Real Madrid.

#8 Defeat despite an early lead

Pique
It was a disappointing night for Barcelona defenders.

Giving up an early lead always hurts, but a 3-1 win just kills it. With three goals scored against them in this match, Barcelona had conceded as many goals against Real Madrid as they had in their last 10 La Liga matches.

Also, this was the first La Liga Clasico that the Catalans had lost after leading for the first time in 26 years.

#9 Who has won more El Clasicos?

barcelona real madrid
So which team has the upper hand now?

This was the 229th Clasico played between the two best sides in Europe going against one-another. Real Madrid have won it on 92 occasions while Barcelona have come on top in 89 matches. The rest of the 48 matches ended in draws.

#10 A good debut for players

Debutants
Luis Suarez made his debut in the Barcelona shirt against Real Madrid.

It was rather good debut for all the five players making their El Clasico debut in this match with three of them assisting the three goals scored out of four. Suarez helped Neymar score the first goal of the match while Toni Kroos took that corner that led to Pepe’s goal. James Rodriguez provided the final ball to Karim Benzema to score Real Madrid’s third.

This had earlier happened in the Clasico played back in 1953 when Di Stefano had made his debut.
