Top 10 records that Rafael Nadal could end up breaking by the time he retires

Rafael Nadal has made many records his own in his nineyears as a professional tennis player. The Spaniard, though, has many moresignificantrecords in his sights, being just 27 years old. While a few may sounda little far-fetched at this stage of his career, some others are very achievable for the current World No. 1Here, we take a look at 10 supremely significant records that Nadal could go on to break by the time his career is done.

#10 Most no. of Grand Slam singles titles

This one is the most obvious and the most talked-about record that is within the Spaniard's grasp. Rafael Nadal has won 13 Grand Slam singles titles and is third on the list beind Pete Sampras (14) and Roger Federer (17). Will he be able to overtake Federer's tally of 17? It's a question that has been asked repeatedly by everyone, but Nadal is still quite a way off that record. That's not to say he doesn't have a chance to get past Federer's 17, but it's a record that will require some beating!

#9 Most no. of Grand Slam final appearances

Nadal has reached the finals of a Grand Slam event 19 times, winning 13 and losing 6. The Majorcan is tied second for most finals appearances, along with Ivan Lendl. Roger Federer leads this list too with 24 finals appearances.

#8 Most Slam titles without dropping a set

Nadal won the French Open in 2008 and 2010 without dropping a set. Bjorn Borg has done that three times (1976 Wimbledon, 1978 French Open, 1980 French Open). While winning a Slam in itself is a huge ask, doing so without dropping a set is not something that any player would consciously chase. Nevertheless, it's a statistical possibilty for Nadal.

#7 Most Olympic singles gold medals

No tennis player has ever won two singles gold medals in tennis at the Olympics. Nadal will have the chance to do so at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

#6 Most no. of match wins in Masters 1000 tournaments

Nadal, on his way to 26 titles, has won 265 matches in all Masters 1000 tournaments combined. However, as in most lists, Federer is ahead of him with 283 wins. A difference of 18 is not too big but Nadal will have to be on top of his game to get past Federer here.

#5 Most no. of claycourt titles

Nadal is talked of as the greatest clay courter of all time but the 27-year-old is still three titles behind Guillermo Vilas' record of 46 claycourt titles. Health permitiing, this is a record that Nadal can easily, and very shortly, make his own.

#4 Career prize money

Nadal has made a whopping $64,632,763 over the course of his career and lies behind only Roger Federer on that list, who has made $79,218,415.

#3 Winning at least 1 title the most number of years

Nadal has won at least one title a season for 11 years in a row now. The record is currently held jointly by Ivan Lendl and Roger Federer who won at least one title for 14 consecutive years. It's a tricky record for Nadal to achieve, especially considering Federer may still add a few more years to that record, but it's not out of his grasp just yet.

#2 Most no. of titles at one tournament

The Spaniard has won the Monte Carlo Masters, Barcelona Open and the French Open eight times each. The record of 11 wins at a single tournament is jointly held by Jean Borotra (at the British Covered Court Championships) and Eric Sturgess (at the South African Championships). Nadal has three tournaments at which he can match that record or go one better.

#1 Highest win % over top 10 players

Rafael Nadal has a career win-loss record of 123-56 against top 10 players. That makes it a win percentage of 68.7, which puts him second on the list behind Bjorn Borg who had a 70.5% win percentage. Nadal surely has this record in his sights.
