Djokovic eased by his Argentine oppenent in straight sets, winning 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.
#2 Stan Wawrinka vs Jiri Vesely
Third seed Wawrinka needed two tie-breaks to get past Vesely in straight sets. He won match with the score 6-2, 7-6(8-6), 7-6(7-3).
#3 Maria Sharapova vs Maria Kirilenko
Fifth seed Sharapova won ten straight games to beat fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko 6-4, 6-0.
#4 Andy Murray vs Robin Haase
Andy Murray won the first two sets but dropped the third set to Robin Haase. The British number one regained his composure to take the fourth set and win the match by the score 6-3, 7-6 (8-6), 1-6, 7-5.
#5 Simona Halep vs Danielle Collins
Second seed Simona Halep did not have the best of starts to the US Open. She dropped the first set in the tie-break against Danielle Collins of the USA. However, Halep started to get a grip on the match and eventually confortably won the next two sets 6-1, 6-2.
