World Chess Championship 2010: Vishwanathan Anand to face Veselin Topalov

The current world chess champion Vishwanathan Anand of India will meet Bulgarian Veselin Topalov to retain his title in the World Chess Championship 2010. The chess championship will kick start in Sophia, Bulgaria from 23rd April and will be held till May 12,2010. The prize money for the championship is 2 million euros.

The wold championship match will have the same format as it was in 2006 and 2008. It will be a twelve games match including the tie-breaks. The time control allotted for the first 40 moves will be 120 minutes, 60 minutes for the next twenty moves and for the rest of game will be fifteen minutes with an addition of 30 seconds per move after move 61th has been made.

Vishwanathan Anand has won successively two world championship title, once in 2007 in an eight player tournament and other in 2008 where he defeated former champion Vladimir Kramnik of Russia.

Veselin Topalov, winner of the F I DE World Chess Championship 2005 lost his title to Kramnik in 2006. He defeated Gata Kamsky in the Challenger match during 16-28 February, 2009 to acquire the position of challenger to Anand.
