World Junior Team Squash Championship: Indian team reaches quarterfinals

Windhoek (Namibia), Aug 17 (IANS): Fourth seeded India, with an unbeaten record in Group D, have qualified for the quarterfinals of the WSF Junior World Team Squash Championship for men, defeating Colombia 3-0 in their concluding league fixture here on Sunday.

India earlier defeated Kuwait and Guatemala 3-0 each and thus topped their group.

Kush Kumar, a semifinalist in the individual singles who was rested for the match against Guatemala, played in the remaining two matches to spearhead the Indian challenge.

He won convincingly to provide a perfect platform for the others to finish the job. Except for Vijay Kumar Meena, who was stretched in the second match of the tie against Colombia, the rest were easy.

4-India beat Colombia 3-0 (Kush Kumar bt Andres Felipe Herrera 12-10, 11-1, 11-7; Vijay Meena bt Dairo Sandoval 11-5, 12-10, 9-11, 14-12; Madhav Dhingra bt Santiago Orozco 11-4, 11-9, 11-6).

4-India beat Kuwait 3-0 (Kush Kumar bt Ali Alqallaf 11-6, 11-2, 11-6; Madhav Dhingra bt Khaled Al-Jenaidel 11-9, 11-8, 11-6; Vijay Meena bt Mohammad Ali 11-5, 11-4, 11-2).

4-India beat Guatemala 3-0 (Madhav Dhingra bt Ricardo Toscano 11-3, 11-4, 11-9; Vijay Meena bt Qaini Bonilla 11-4, 11-2, 11-1; Velavan Senthilkumar bt Alejandro Enriquez 11-7, 11-6, 11-2).
