Sharath Kamal Achanta clears the first hurdle comfortably

18 June 2010, New Delhi: Top Indian seed Sharatha Kamal Achanta cleared the first hurdle in the men’s singles and men’s double category at the ongoing NCC Indian Open ITTF Pro Tour 2010 at the Yamuna Sports Complex in the capital. The event is being considered as a test event en-route to the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi. Over hundred players from 13 nations are participating in the five day long event.

Achanta who comfortably defeated Ji Min Han from Korea to enter the next round in the men’s singlescategory of the tournament by 4-1 and set points being11-9,11-6,5-11,11-8 and 11-4. Achanta now meets Chih Chi Wu from Chinese Taipei. Wu defeated Abishek Ravichandran from India by 11-3,8-11,3-11,11-6,11-9 and 11-6.

In the men’s doubles event Indian duo Sharath Kamal Achanta and Subhajit Saha defeated the pair of Xiaoli Cai and Zhongze Liu from Singapore by 3-11,8-11,11-9,11-2,11-5,7-11 and12-10. In a major upset Harmeet Desai and Devesh Karia from India defeated pair from tournament second seeded pairs of Patrick Baum and Dimitrij Ovtcharov from Germany in straight sets of 11-6,11-6,11-3 and 11-9.

In the women’s singles event all five Indian contenders lost their respective matches. Top Indian seed Mouma Das ended her campaign as she lost to Dal Rae Jin from Korea by 11-5,11-7,14-16,11-3 and11-6.

In the Under 21 Boy’s category, Ovidiu Ionescu from Romania defeated Min Seok Kim from Korea 11-7,11-9,11-7,7-11,6-11and 11-9 entering the semi-final with final score of 4-2. 3 Chien-An Chen from Chinese Taipei defeated Ji Min Han from Korea by 11-8,11-9,11-4,9-11,4-11 and 11-7. 5 In a close fight Kenji Matsudaira from Japan defeated Philipp Floritz from Germany with 11-2, 11-13,11-3,8-11,11-6,8-11 and11-7. In a Korean clash Gang Woog Kim lost to Young Sik Jung in straight sets of 9-11, 3-11, 7-11 and 7-11.

In the Under 21 Girl’s category, Mengyu Yu from Singapore comfortably defeated Mi Jeong Kim from Korea in straight sets 11-6, 11-6, 11-8 and 11-8 to enter semi-finals. Mi Soon Kang from Korea defeated Yuka Ishigaki from Japan by 4-1 and the set scores being 11-6, 11-8,11-5,6-11,11-7. In other match Dal Rae Jin from Korea defeated I-Ching Cheng from Chinese Taipei in straight sets of 11-7, 11-6, 11-4 and11-9 and in the last match Kasumi Ishikawa from Japan defeated Min Hee Kim from Korea by 4-1 the final score points being 11-9,10-12,11-5,11-4, and 11-6.
