ASA Set to Host the 6th AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament

Anantapur Sports Academy (ASA) is preparing itself to host the annual AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament for Under 14 and Under 16 boys and girls in its sixth edition. The tournament has been organized by the name of ‘Father Vicente Ferrer Memorial AITA Championship Series’ in memory of Late Father Vicente Ferrer, founder of the Rural Development Trust (RDT).

The tournament will be organised at the Nadal Educational & Tennis School supported by Rafa Nadal Foundation, R.D.T. Sports Centre, Bangalore Highway, Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. It will feature over 350 athletes which includes some of the best Tennis talents in the country. Last year the tournament saw about 200 athletes fighting for top honours. The tournament is set between 17th and 25th July 2015.

The tournament shall be inaugurated by the President and Secretary of the Anantapur District Lawn Tennis Association, Katta Nagabhushanam, Nagaraju Babu respectively and RDT’s Director of Sports & Cultural Affairs, E.F. Xavier.

Talking about the event, Tournament Director, K. Bhaskarchar said players will report on the 17th of July to sign in after which the qualifying rounds will be held on the 18th and 19th and the main draw will be held between the 20th and 25th of July 2015 with close to 150 matches to be played during the course of the tournament.

ASA has submitted 10 entries to AITA for the tournament, 4 boys and 6 girls will participate in this tournament, including an 11 year old Venkatesh and D. Pallavi being their star athletes to look out for. “We are looking forward to the tournament and hoping that our athletes, particularly Venkatesh and Pallavi, benefit greatly with such a tournament exposure. We hope Pallavi reaches the final stages of the tournament as she has been training and playing pretty good these days” said Raduan Head coach of the Nadal Educational & Tennis School. Apart from these about 10 more athletes from Anantapur will participate in the tournament.
