Dylan Alcott makes history, wins two gold medals in two different sports at Paralympic Games

Dylan Alcott after winning the 2016 Paralympic Games – wheelchair tennis doubles.

Two sports, two Paralympics, two gold medals.

Dylan Alcott made history after becoming the first Paralympian of his country to win two gold medals in two completely different sports in quite incredible fashion. The Australian sportsman is no stranger to the Paralympics. In the 2008 edition of the Games, he was part of Australia's men's wheelchair basketball team that won gold. His team followed it up with a silver medal at London 2012 after losing the final to Canada.

But the manner in which Alcott added his name to the elite list of athletes was quite something. He won the men's tennis quad doubles final alongside partner Heath Davidson, defeating their American opponents in the final to win Paralympic gold in Rio

Born with a tumour around his spinal cord, the Australian underwent surgery which left him with paraplegia. But instead of picking up one sport and sticking to it, he decided to reach the peak of the Paralympics. “It’s my gold medal in a second sport, and if you told a kid at school who was getting bullied about his disability that, when I was 8 years old, there’s no way I would have believed it. I’m just the luckiest guy in the world,” Alcott told Channel 7.

He will try to win another medal in Rio de Janeiro as he competes in the men's quad singles later this week.
