French Open: Federer, Wozniacki into Third Round

Nice and easy for Roger Federer

Roger Federer and Caroline Wozniacki, who started proceedings at Court Suzanne Lenglen and Court Philippe Chatrier respectively had comfortable victories as they move into the third round.

Roger Federer, seeded third this time, defeated French wildcard Maxime Texeira 6-3 6-0 6-2 to move into the third round of the ongoing French Open. The Swiss maestro was at his sublime best and gave up only 5 games in the process. Federer also won 13 games on the trot during the match. Federer, whose only triumph at Roland Garros came in 2009, was broken early into the first set, but after 3-3 in the first set, Federer diidn’t lose a game till the score was 4-1 in the third set. Such was his dominance.

“It’s so difficult to come out and play on a big court when you are not used to it,” Federer said of his 22-year-old opponent. “I’m playing here for the 12th year and I’m very experienced.”

Meanwhile, the top seed in the Women’s draw had a somewhat tough match, but she did eventually manage to knock out Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada in straight sets 6-3 7-6(6). Caroline, who had an easy outing in the first round, didn’t look at the top of her game. However, her performance was enough to see off the challenge from the Canadian. Wozniacki is scheduled to meet the winner of the match between Daniela Hantuchova and Sara Errani.

Meanwhile, in other recent results, Sam Stosur gave a dominating performance as she beat Simona Halep 6-0 6-2 to move into the last 32. The German 17th seed, Julia Goerges also went into the next round after defeating Lucie Safarova in three sets,2-6 7-5 6-2 as she came back from behind
