Big serving Ivo Karlovic caused an upset in the quarterfinals of the Gerry Weber Open taking out No. 3 seed Tomas Berdych 7-5, 6-7 (8), 6-3.

The men’s singles record in a match stays with John Isner who hit 113 aces against Nicolas Mahut in the marathon match at Wimbledon in 2010.

Karlovic broke Berdych’s serve at 5-5 in the opening set when the Czech double faulted. Karlovic saved three set points in the second set, but sqaundered a match point opportunity when he hit a return into the net.

The Croat broke Berdych’s serve early in the third set to take a 3-1 lead before finishing things off with an ace on match point.

"I just knew there was a lot of aces, but I didn't know it was that many," Karlovic said. "The record will always be there, it will always be written. I'm extremely happy."

Karlovic will take on Roger Federer on Saturday for a place in the final.
